Glass vases

Fiskars Home Oy Ab / Iittala

The fluidity and vibrant feel of the mouth blown glass creates the delicate character for the new Iittala collectible vase Ruutu. Created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Ruutu might be simple in shape but it takes the most skilled craftsmen in the glass factory to produce. Ruutu, which means diamond or square in Finnish, is a collection of 10 vases available in five sizes and seven colors. When collected and combined, they make small seamless installations where both the strength and the delicate nature of the glass come alive. Each vase is a simplified masterpiece taking seven craftsmen 24 hours to produce in the Iittala glass factory.

JURY STATEMENT

Touched by Nordic Design - selected by Dorrit Bøilerehauge Iittala’s colorful range of Ruutu vases in different sizes forms a sensory symphony ready for exploration and expression. The depth of the colors adds substance to the glass, and the prismatic shapes signal consideration for sculptural and aesthetic values. The designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec add new dimensions to the classic Nordic universe, with the diamond shapes and as many as 10 different colors, all adding their own perspectives to the purity of the material. The Ruutu vases, which are so much more than merely vessels, bear testimony to artisan craftsmanship and design history while using contemporary shapes.
