During development the focus was on achieving a light-weight design. Weight reduction of the steel version amounts up to 40%, and of the aluminum version 60%, compared to conventional lathe chucks with almost identical performance data. Weight reduction involves a lower energy consumption of the machine tool. It takes the strain off the spindle and makes the piece much more environmentally friendly. Moreover, the machine spindle can be quickly accelerated or slowed down. The permanent oil lubrication and the hermetical sealing make the unit quasi maintenance-free.
